Ever heard the Hymn "Know this, that every soul is Free"?

Second verse reads:

"Freedom and Reason make us men. Take these away, and what are we then?"

Just as I was thinking about how much I liked this hymn, the girl next to me leaned in a said "I never liked that song", this, after she had referenced Obama's ability to unite people during her lesson in an earlier meeting. So misguided.
